DICKINSON — The Dickinson community is grieving the loss of Cecilia Homiston, a junior at Dickinson High School, whose passing was announced to students and families on Wednesday.
Cecilia, a valued member of Dickinson Public Schools since kindergarten, is remembered fondly by those who knew her.
Jeff Brandt, Principal of Dickinson High School, expressed the district’s condolences in a letter to parents, stating, “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Cecilia’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
The announcement of Cecilia’s passing was shared with students Wednesday morning. Counselors were made available to provide emotional support to grieving classmates, and resources will continue to be accessible for those navigating the loss.
Dickinson Public Schools has urged families to be attentive to their children’s emotional well-being during this time, providing guidance for addressing grief at home.
“Students may feel out of sorts for a while,” Brandt noted in the letter, encouraging open dialogue and offering suggestions to help children process their emotions.
The school district also emphasized the importance of acknowledging grief’s varying stages, which can include denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Families are encouraged to contact school counselors if they have concerns about their child’s reaction or need additional support.
