American Airlines Pilot From Orange County Dies Suddenly, Leaves Behind Daughter, Grandson
Family and friends are mourning the sudden death of a Hudson Valley pilot who spent his career in the skies and now leaves behind a daughter and an infant grandson.
Joel Marquez, an American Airlines captain from the Warwick area, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 8.
Marquez worked as a captain flying Boeing 737 aircraft for American Airlines and was remembered by loved ones as a devoted father, son, brother, and friend.
“Joel was an amazing father, brother, son, and friend,” wrote Andrew Hardman on a GoFundMe page established to support the family.
According to the fundraiser, Marquez is survived by his 19-year-old daughter, Elilah, and his 1-year-old grandson, Thiago.
The fundraising effort was created to help cover funeral expenses and provide financial support for his daughter and grandson following his death. As of Thursday, June 11, the campaign had raised more than $1,180 toward its $100,000 goal.

A memorial announcement shared by the family said visitation services will be held on Monday, June 15, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, located at 130 Highland Ave. in Middletown.
Visitation hours are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
